Method
Pat the chicken dry and rub with the oil, paprika, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and pepper.
Set up the grill for two-zone heat: one hot side and one cooler side.
Start the chicken skin-side down on the cooler side, cover, and cook 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally, until nearly cooked through. This gentle start stops it burning before it is done.
Brush with BBQ sauce and move to the hot side. Grill 2-3 minutes per side, brushing with more sauce, until sticky and charred.
